About The Artist

A native of Madisonville, Kentucky, Ron Ledbetter has no formal training in Art but has been drawing for as long as he can remember. After studying drama at the University of Evansville, Ron heard the “call of duty”, serving his country in Vietnam, before moving to Houston, Texas. After attending the University of Houston, Ron was given an opportunity to enter the Building business and had a successful career in two joint ventures and his own company, Ledbetter Homes, Inc. When the Industry “crashed” in the mid 1980’s, he went on to a long and successful career in the Mortgage and Title Insurance businesses

All the while, Ron continued to develop and improve one of his true passions: Art. Whether drawing cartoons for his kids, illustrating a children’s book or drawing and painting landscapes, Ron always kept art in the back of his mind. Now Retired, he has devoted much of his free time to golf and further developing his artistic skill. He has since fallen in love with landscape and still-life drawing and painting using various materials including ink, chalk and watercolors. In the artist’s own words:

I love the ability to look at a setting or photograph I have taken, sketch the subject to learn what may be a challenge in application and then produce a finished piece working with chalk, or sometimes watercolor.  I have used charcoal, oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pencil, but pastel chalk is the medium I find most enjoyable.  I still do some watercolors and draw, but I find pastel chalk to be the most forgiving and easy to combine colors to produce interesting pictures.

I have only exhibited my work one time at the Reese Gallery, so I hope that those seeing this offering will enjoy what I do.  God has blessed me with a gift and I thank Him for it every day.
